In 1770, his marriage to Marie Antoinette who was the daughter of emperor and empress of Austria began. Louis XVI was overthrown during the revolution, the rebellion. The wars of Louis XVI affected debts, due to France’s funding for the colonist in the American war of independence which had changed France to the brink of bankruptcy.
Although Britain had the same amount of debt, but the tax system was the main reason of bankruptcy. Because everyone in Britain from the nobles to clergy’s and citizen’s paid tax while in France the clergy and nobility did not pay tax. King Louis XVI helped further in the rebellion by summoning of the third estate in 1789 to try and raise taxes. The third estate were enraged that king Louis XVI would not allow all three estates to meet together, they declared themselves as “National Assembly” meaning that the nation only had rights.
He faced huge amounts of debt towards a despotic monarchy. Due to him being a failure of addressing of the severe financial problems. He did not have the appropriate strength and determination to battle the impact of court, the divisions between the people.
