LOUIS XVI

Louis XVI, the king of France and husband to Marie Antoinette, born at Versailles August 23rd 
   he was given the name of Louis Augusta de France. 
 In 1770, his marriage to Marie Antoinette who was the daughter of emperor and empress of Austria began.  Louis XVI was overthrown during the revolution, the rebellion. The wars of Louis XVI affected debts, due to France’s funding for the colonist in the American war of independence which had changed France to the brink of bankruptcy. 
  Although Britain had the same amount of debt, but the tax system was the main reason of bankruptcy. Because everyone in Britain from the nobles to clergy’s and citizen’s paid tax while in France the clergy and nobility did not pay tax.  King Louis XVI helped further in the rebellion by summoning of the third estate in 1789 to try and raise taxes. The third estate were enraged that king Louis XVI would not allow all three estates to meet together, they declared themselves as “National Assembly” meaning that the nation only had rights. 
He faced huge amounts of debt towards a despotic monarchy. Due to him being a failure of addressing of the severe financial problems.  He did not have the appropriate strength and determination to battle the impact of court, the divisions between the people. 


MARIE ANTOINETTE

Marie Antoinette, the wife of King Louis XVI, and daughter of the emperor and empress of Austria. Born on November 2nd 1755. she was most known for her part in the French Revolution as an contentious queen.

Born on November 2nd 1755, she was most known for her part in the French Revolution as a notorious empress. From the start of the French revolution she did not bargain with those revolting, she was known to spending a lot of money, which made the tax rise higher. she was seen by the people of France to indulge in luxurious and spend she more money on clothes and jewels, through this she helped in the rise of tax which inevitably caused people to pay more. Most people believed that she did not care for her people, that she spend her money on wigs , expensive dresses and parties, when people were starving. 

she was often credited of saying "Let them eat cake" but there is no evidence she said that. she was soon beheaded nine months after Louis XVI. She was beheaded on October 16th 1793.

MAXIMILIAN ROBESPIERRE

Born as Maximillian Marie Isadora de Robespierre, he was the son of a lawyer soon after he went into the same field as his father. Born on 6th 1758, he was an official during the French Revolution. He became a Jacobin figure in April 1789, during the Rebellion, 1793 he soon came to control the committee of public safety.  He was a Participant in the making of the “Declaration of rights of Man and Citizen” he was especially liked by the public for his hatred against the aristocracy.  He was chosen as the major deputy of Paris to the National Convection.  It declared France as a republic. He argued for the King to put on trial for treachery, which was successful since the King was beheaded on January 1793. After the King’s death, there was struggle of power between Jacobins and Girondins.  Through the use of power the by Jacobins, the Girondins were arrested. Through this the control of France had been passed to “Committee of Public Safety” which was not the best outcome since Maximillian Robespierre was a member and soon became the leader of the group.  Through this the committee started the “Reign of terror” where they killed all those who might be against the revolt.  Due to his dictatorship Robespierre soon became disliked, he was arrested in 1794 after a fight. During the Reign of terror he was overthrown and then beheaded.
